New requirements for the sale of threatened wildlife
Environmental Newsletter - February 2018
Royal Decree 7/2018, approved on January 12, 2018, introduced new requirements for the sale of wild fauna and flora species.
The Royal Decree, issued in response to a notable increase in the illegal international trade of certain species, aims to prevent this trade from negatively impacting wildlife conservation, thereby ensuring their survival and that of their populations. Protection for these wildlife species dates back to 1973, with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, and has been further developed in the European Union through the Regulations of 1997 and 2006.
