    The Official State Gazette has published Announcement no. 220-A/2023 determining the opening of a period for expressions of interest to participate in the procedure for the award of offshore wind energy production rights.
  • Spain: Adapting the tax system to challenges facing the green transition

    In the context of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan a range of measures relating to environmental taxes have been approved, notably the creation of a tax on non-reusable plastic packaging and amendment of the tax on fluorinated greenhouse gases. This new tax will come into force on January 1, 2023, whereas the amendment of the tax on fluorinated gases has been in force since September 1, 2022.

  • Spain: new tax measures in the Law on waste and contaminated land for a circular economy

    Law 7/2022 of April 8, 2022 creates an excise tax on non-reusable plastic packaging and a tax on waste sent to landfill, incineration and co-incineration, which will come into force on January 1, 2023. It moreover imposes an obligation on local authorities to charge a fee in relation to waste treatment, modifies the rules on the charge on the use of inland water for electricity generation and adds amendments to the VAT rules for gifts of products.

We provide an overview of the current position of Chile, Colombia, Peru, Mexico and Brazil in respect of this international treaty, signed on March 4 2018 in Costa Rica, and due to enter into force on April 22 2021.
