Spain -

The awards ceremony took place today, Thursday June 13, and was attended by the acting Minister of Justice

Celia Herrero Cantó is the winner of the 2019 Young Lawyers Awards, hosted by Centro de Estudios Garrigues and Fundación Garrigues. Bárbara Montanari and María Rodrigo Muro came in second and third place, respectively. The acting Minister of Justice, Dolores Delgado García, handed out the diplomas at the headquarters of Centro de Estudios Garrigues.

Cantó has received a prize of €6,000 and a full scholarship to the Centro de Estudios Garrigues’ Master’s Degree in Legal Practice (she has chosen the Master’s program for entry to the legal profession, specialist area corporate/commercial law). Montanari and Rodrigo obtained a full scholarship and 75% of the prize respectively. The other finalists each received a half-fee scholarship to the Centro de Estudios Garrigues’ Master’s Degree in Legal Practice. All the awardees received a diploma for participating.

The panel also signled out the winner’s university, the Law Faculty of Universidad de Alicante. The dean of the faculty, Pedro José Femenía López, received a diploma at today’s ceremony as a mark of this recognition. Various universities have participated in this year’s edition: Alicante, Almería, Antonio de Nebrija, Autónoma de Madrid, Barcelona, Colegio Universitario Villanueva, Cardenal Herrera-CEU, Carlos III, Complutense, Córdoba, CUNEF, Deusto, ESADE, Granada, La Coruña, Loyola Andalucía, Málaga, Internacional Isabel I, Murcia, Navarra, Oberta de Catalunya, Pablo de Olavide, País Vasco, Pontificia de Comillas-ICADE, Rey Juan Carlos, Salamanca, San Pablo-CEU, Sevilla, Valencia, Valladolid and Zaragoza.

The following candidates also received a diploma to recognize their position as finalists: Pilar Acha Urruticoechea, Francisco Benedito Muñoz, María Trinidad Cabrera Cabrera, María del Carmen Coello de Portugal Magallón, María Esteban Martínez, Pablo Fernández Hernández, Verónica Fernández Roldán, Alejandro Montanero García, Gonzalo Morales Gómez. There were thirty candidates this year, of which only twelve reached the final.

The jury was comprised of prestigious jurists: José María Alonso Puig, Dean of the Madrid Bar Association (President), Jorge Jaime de Fuentes Corripio, Alberto de Martín Muñoz, Eduardo María Valpuesta Gastaminza and José Ramón Martínez (who acted as secretary).

Since it started, the Young Lawyers Awards has sought to encourage the practice and knowledge of business law. Participating in these awards involves a complex exam split into two parts: a written opinion, to be prepared in five hours, regarding a case related to business law and a subsequent oral defense of this opinion. Both the panel and the institutions that organized the awards thanked all the candidates for participating and congratulated them on their work.
