José Luis Ortín and David Vich named among Iberian Lawyer’s ‘40 under Forty’

Spain -

Garrigues partners José Luis Ortín and David Vich have been ranked among the forty most outstanding young lawyers working in the legal sector in Spain and Portugal. The fifth edition of the “40 under Forty’ awards - which are presented by the international journal Iberian Lawyer every two years - was held yesterday in Barcelona.

The aim of these awards is to highlight the talent of the forty best professionals aged under forty in the private legal sector, from both law firms and corporations. The criteria considered include, in particular, involvement in major transactions, contribution made to progress in the legal sector, management and leadership capacity, contribution to academia, and social responsibility commitment. The candidatures are assessed by an independent jury made up of both representatives from the legal sector and academics. There were 247 entries for this edition.

The Garrigues lawyers selected have extensive professional experience. José Luis Ortín, from the Madrid office, is a partner in Garrigues’ corporate law department, specializing in mergers and acquisitions, financial law, and securities markets law. During his professional career, he has been involved in multiple M&A, private equity, acquisition finance, project finance and securities offering transactions. Thanks to his common law training and international perspective (he is a member of the New York Bar Association), he has gained ample experience advising MNEs and foreign financial institutions.

David Vich, on the other hand, is based professionally in the firm’s Palma de Mallorca office. He is a partner in Garrigues’ Litigation and Arbitration department and has advised on numerous procedures before the courts of law and arbitration courts, both nationally and internationally. His areas of legal expertise include civil and commercial contracting and issues relating to the tourism and hotel industry. In this field, he has been involved in some of the most significant court cases seen in Spain in recent years, standing out for his capacity to come up with innovative approaches to highly complex matters.
