Garrigues Digital marks one year on the pulse of the Economy 4.0

Garrigues is the only firm with a vertical portal 100% dedicated to analyzing the legal challenges posed by the new digital business models

Garrigues Digital marks one year as the benchmark portal for legal analysis of current trends and developments in the Economy 4.0. Over the past year, more than 150 articles and 120 news items have been posted on the portal by Garrigues professionals specialized in different business law practice areas, contributing their transversal, international and sector-based viewpoints. The portal covers digital economy sectors such as fintech, platforms, fashiontech, Industry 4.0, cleantech, e-sports and more, as well as key topics, like cyber risks, data protection, intellectual property and e-commerce.

Answers to the main challenges facing the new business models arising from technological advances can be found right on the portal. After only one year live, Garrigues Digital is one of the ten most-visited sections of the firm’s website.

Some of the articles that have garnered the greatest interest include those related with the new Law on Data Protection and the Safeguard of Digital Rights, both from the standpoint of privacy and in terms of labor and employment aspects; taxes that influencers need to pay and the progress in Spain and the European Union toward approval of a new digital services tax; and topics regarding independent management entities (IME) and the role of blockchain in distributing royalties.

The portal also contains analyses of trading platforms, the transposition of the NIS Directive into Spanish law, and the first cases of notification of cyberattacks against essential services operators, in which Garrigues advised.

Garrigues Digital has taken an active part in the debate on new regulations affecting the digital economy, presenting, for example, the main challenges lawmakers face in drafting the proposed Start-Ups Law.

After only one year live, Garrigues Digital has become a benchmark for addressing the legal challenges derived from the Economy 4.0. The portal reflects the firm’s intense activity in an area in which, in 2018, more than 120 lawyers took part in over 200 transactions and projects.
