Madalena Afra Rosa is a senior associate in the criminal, misdemeanour and compliance practice area.
Her practice is centered on economic and financial sanctions law, where she represents corporate and individual clients.
Experience
Madalena joined Garrigues' criminal, misdemeanour and compliance team as a senior associate in February 2024.
Before joining Garrigues, she previously worked for 7 years as a junior, senior and managing associate at the Litigation and Arbitration practice area of Uría Menéndez – Proença de Carvalho and for 6 months as a senior associate at the Civil Litigation and Arbitration practice area of Uría Menéndez, in Madrid.
She has represented corporate and individual clients in banking and finance disputes and proceedings concerning administrative infringements and criminal offences.
In the context of her activity, she participated in some major administrative offences cases that took place in Portugal before the Bank of Portugal, the Portuguese Securities Market Commission and the Competition, Regulation and Supervision Court, representing financial institutions and/or individuals in proceedings related with the violation of regulatory rules or rules against money laundering.
Academic background
Madalena has a Law Degree from the University of Lisbon and completed her master’s degree course in civil and criminal forensic law at the Catholic University of Portugal.

Madalena has been a member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 2015.
