For the last 30 years, José Ignacio Guerra has pursued his professional career at Garrigues, following a period at Arthur Andersen. He specializes in tax law, above all in the fields of tax litigation, real estate taxation and the taxation of refinancing and restructuring processes. He is the partner in charge of Garrigues? Tax Procedure Group and the Real Estate industry line in the tax area.
Within the tax litigation group he heads, he frequently acts as an appellant before Spain?s various courts (Supreme Court, National Appellate Court, etc.) against the tax authorities. He also plays an active role in tax regularization processes.
He has participated in tax advisory services for the performance of the most notable real estate deals carried out in Spain over the last ten years regarding investments and divestments in respect of both single assets and asset portfolios. Moreover, he has advised on restructuring and refinancing deals at real estate groups. He regularly collaborates on the tax analysis of company debt refinancing processes, above all real estate companies, and on processes to acquire assets awarded by financial institutions.
He lectures on the Executive Programs at Centro de Estudios Garrigues and Instituto de Empresa and is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences staged by the Firm and by a host of specialist centers (IEB, Instituto de Fomento Empresarial, etc.).
José Ignacio Guerra is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.
