Garrigues partner, João Miranda de Sousa, received the award of Portugal Practitioner of the Year

The Intellectual Property Department of Garrigues Portugal has won the "Portugal Disputes Firm of the Year" award presented yesterday in London by Managing Intellectual Property, one of the world's most prestigious publications in the field of intellectual property. In addition to this award, Managing Intellectual Property named João Miranda de Sousa, partner in charge of the Portuguese IP team and head of the Garrigues Lisbon and Oporto offices, as Portugal's Lawyer of the Year.

With these awards, Managing Intellectual Property acknowledges the experience and know-how of Garrigues' professionals in the main IP areas and their ongoing involvement in litigation, which is establishing case law at a European level on complex legal issues, such as those related to legal fake and protection of plant varieties. The publication also valued the team's solid and diversified portfolio of national and international clients in sectors such as fashion, food and beverages, ICT, audiovisual, pharmaceutical and sports; as well as its ability to advise on innovative topics such as big data, artificial intelligence and 3D printing.

This is the fourth time in the last five years that Garrigues Portugal has been recognized by Managing Intellectual Property. In 2019, the prestigious international publication awarded Garrigues as law firm of the year in Portugal in the trademark litigation category; in 2020, the team was awarded the "IP Case of the Year - Portugal" for its advice in IP litigation between Cofemel and G-Star Raw; and in 2021, Garrigues won the award as the best law firm in Portugal in "Advisory & Contentious Intellectual Property Litigation".
