Garrigues received the FT European award for legal innovation in London last night, for creating a new way to help international investors recover non-performing loans (NPL) from financial institutions. The newspaper took into account the huge impact of this legal innovation, which creates a new standard and improves competition and the appeal of the Spanish NPL market, one of the most active in Europe. This new approach, conceived by Garrigues’ Restructuring and Insolvency Department, allows funds to rapidly foreclose, auction and award the assets, saving a great deal of time and money.
Garrigues has won the Gold Award for Best Latin American Law Firm for its outstanding presence in the region and, specifically, for the work of the corporate law practice and its advice on transactions in strategic sectors for the Latin American economy.
Celia Herrero Cantó is the winner of the 2019 Young Lawyers Awards, hosted by Centro de Estudios Garrigues and Fundación Garrigues. Bárbara Montanari and María Rodrigo Muro came in second and third place, respectively. The acting Minister of Justice, Dolores Delgado García, handed out the diplomas at the headquarters of Centro de Estudios Garrigues.
For the second time in a row, Garrigues has been named Transatlantic Independent Law Firm of the Year for its cross-border activity and its regional presence in Europe and America. This award is granted each year by the international media group, ALM, based in the US and the UK, which publishes specialized legal titles, such as The American Lawyer, Corporate Counsel or Legal Week.
Garrigues scooped both Peru Most Innovative Law Firm of the Year and Capital Markets Firm of the Year in the Andes at the Americas Awards organized by International Financial Law Review (IFLR). The awards ceremony, held last night in New York, recognized the advice provided by firms in the region that participated in the most innovative cross-border transactions and that have demonstrated their knowledge and expertise in strategic areas, such as M&A or banking and finance.
Garrigues has been doubly recognized as Tax Firm of the Year in Spain and Portugal. The firm collected the honors bestowed by International Tax Review (ITR) at the European Tax Awards held yesterday in London. These prestigious annual awards reward excellence in tax matters by European firms. The firm also picked up a third award for its participation in Blackstone’s acquisition of the real estate assets of Banco Popular, listed by ITR as Impact Deal of the Year.
Garrigues took the award for Latin American Deal of the Year in the banking and finance category for its advice to Metro de Bogotá and Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional on the financing of the largest urban transport project in Colombia. The awards are presented annually in São Paulo by Latin Lawyer, one of the most prestigious publications in the sector, and bring together the main firms and companies in the region.
The professional association @asLAN has presented Cesar Mejías, the Head of Garrigues’ Technology Department, with an award in recognition of his “professional career as a CIO in the private sector” at the Directivos que Impulsan la Transformación Digital (Managers driving Digital Transformation) awards ceremony held in Madrid on April 3.
Garrigues partner Alfonso Lamadrid de Pablo has been named Competition Lawyer of the Year - Under 40 at the annual awards presented by Global Competition Review (GCR), a specialist publication with over 20 years’ experience in the international legal sector. The awards ceremony took place in Washington D.C., bringing together the top lawyers and law firms from the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe.
