María José Abella is a lawyer in the Public Law and Infrastructure practice at Garrigues' Bogotá office. She has been involved in advising public entities and private companies on matters related to the structuring of social infrastructure projects and the contractual execution of road infrastructure projects. She has also participated in the drafting and negotiation of EPC contracts, in advising on port and railway projects, and in the financing of road infrastructure projects.
Experience
María José has been a member of the Public Law and Infrastructure practice at Garrigues since 2025, having worked at the firm since 2024. She holds a law degree from Universidad de los Andes, with complementary studies in Anthropology and Art History from the same university.
She has experience advising clients on matters related to road, port, and railway infrastructure projects. In the course of her practice, she has participated in the structuring of projects developed under public-private partnership schemes and other procurement modalities, as well as in the financing of road infrastructure projects, providing support in due diligence processes, negotiation, and drafting of contractual agreements. She has also been involved in providing legal support for the preparation and execution of EPC contracts.
Additionally, she has contributed to the preparation of legal opinions and research aimed at advising clients and analyzing contractual documentation within the framework of procurement processes in which the firm participates.
She is fluent in Spanish and English and has basic knowledge of Portuguese.
