Increase of justified days of absences due to the passing of a family member

It was published in the Official Gazette the Law no. 1/2022, January 3,increasing the number of days an employee may be absent from work due to the passing of a family member and enabling employees to receive psychological support.
From January 4, 2022, onwards, it is increased from 5 to 20 consecutive days the justified absences from work due to the passing of an employee’s children, stepchildren, godsons (on civil custody relationships) and son and daughters-in-law.
Employees will also entitled to receive psychological support in a National Health System establishment after the passing of their children, stepchildren, children-in-law, godchildren (on civil custody relationships) and close family members, namely spouses and parents.
This psychological supoport should be requested by the employee to his/her doctor, and respective sessions should initiate within 5 days after the passing.
Unless ruled differently in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement or in the employment contract, the legal framework for absences to work due to the passing of a family member that will be in force is the following:
