Garrigues obtains four ‘Latin Lawyer’ awards for advising the best transactions in Latam

Garrigues has received four awards at the Latin Lawyers Awards for its role as legal advisor on four major projects in Latin America, all led by the banking and finance practice. The Garrigues team in Chile won two awards: the best financial restructuring of the year and the best funding under ESG criteria; Peru won another award for the best project finance in the infrastructure sector; and the fourth award was for the best energy project finance, advised by the Garrigues team in Portugal.

The Latin Lawyer awards held their seventeenth edition, bringing together once again in São Paulo the law firms that advised on the best transactions and funding of the year in region.

Restructuring of the year: LATAM completes Chapter 11

U.S. and Latin American law firms assisted LATAM Airlines in a landmark cross-border financial restructuring that began more than two years ago. The Garrigues team in Chile advised local bondholders and Banco Estado de Chile. Best funding under ESG criteria: Chile issues the first sovereign bonds linked to sustainability

Garrigues advised the underwriting banks on the issue of bonds by the Republic of Chile, making it the first nation in the world to issue sustainability-linked bonds, raising US$2 billion. The best infrastructure funding project: Salavarrey, the port concessionaire in Peru, obtains innovative funding from IDB Invest

From Peru, Garrigues advised IDB Invest, which provided the funds, together with other institutional investors to finance the Peruvian port concessionaire Salvarrey Terminal Internacional (STI) through a private placement of an A/B bond, the first of its kind in Peru. ‘Project finance’ of the year in energy: Innergex refinances renewable energy projects in Chile with the funds obtained from the issue of green bonds

Garrigues in Lisbon advised the note purchasers on the refinancing of the Canadian renewable energy group Innergex through the issue of bonds and the obtaining of a loan to refinance its operations in Chile.
