RED III directive approved to move forward with the implementation of renewable energy
The objective is to accelerate energy efficiency, increase the use of renewable energy and reduce emissions in the European Union.
It has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union the Directive 2023/2413 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 October 2023 amending Directive 2018/2001, Regulation 2018/1999 and Directive 98/70/EC as regards the promotion of energy from renewable sources, and repealing Council Directive 2015/652.
The new directive is drawn up in response to the need to accelerate energy efficiency, increase the use of renewable energy and reduce emissions made in the European Union with a further objective of achieving an energy system that is independent from third countries. Among other measures designed to achieve those aims, the share of energy from renewable energy sources in the European Union is updated to be increased to, at least, 42.5% of the gross final consumption of energy in 2030.
