Miguel Pimentel is a partner in the Tax department. His professional activity focuses on advising entities from the finance sector, within the context of financing operations, M&A, venture capital and private equity, and on the taxation of financial products.
From 2015 to 2018 (when he returned to Portugal), he worked in NY advising finance sector clients, including banks and asset managers, within the context of international transactions. From 2010 to 2012, he worked with Garrigues Portugal.
Aide to the Secretary of State for Tax Matters (2012-2013), he formed part of the Reform Commission of the IRC (2013), participating in multiple projects producing legislation in the tax area. He is part of the panel of external experts of the IMF (legal and fiscal affairs department).
He is a member of the Portuguese Bar Association, the corporate bodies of the Portuguese Tax Association, the International Fiscal Association and the Taxes Committee of the International Bar Association.
Academic background:
Law degree from the Law Faculty of the Universidade de Lisboa. LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center (with distinction, Dean’s List).

He has spoken at conferences on matters of international taxation and tax policy in Portugal and abroad, and is regularly published in national and international journals, magazine and books on his specialized area.
