Rodrigo de Alencar is a partner in the Corporate and M&A area of Garrigues' Santiago de Chile office. His practice focuses on complex, high-value transactions, with a predominantly international scope. He has broad expertise in M&A, private equity, shareholder agreements and conflicts, corporate governance, and litigation and arbitration related to corporate law. He has advised domestic and international companies, investment funds and minority and controlling shareholders. His expertise covers a range of sectors including manufacturing, mining, services, retail, construction and sports.
His practice is enhanced by a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Chicago, a postgraduate diploma in Negotiation from Harvard University (2007), and more than twenty years of experience teaching law.
Experience
His practice is focused on M&A, with a special emphasis on complex, predominantly international transactions. He has significant experience in private equity transactions, advising investment funds, controlling companies and minority shareholders. Additionally, he has a well-established practice in corporate governance and shareholder dispute resolution at both public and private companies. He participates in complex litigation and arbitration linked to corporate, contractual and investment-related disputes. His expertise covers a range of sectors including manufacturing, mining, services, retail, construction, sports and finances.
Prior to joining Garrigues as a partner, Rodrigo was a partner at Barros Silva Varela & Vigil (2022-2026). Before that, he was a partner at Urenda Rencoret Orrego y Dörr (2015-2021) and a partner at Prieto y Cía (2008-2011). He also served as an associate judge of the Santiago Court of Appeals (2019-2020) and as a foreign associate at Mayer Brown, Chicago (2001-2002).
He is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and English.
