Javier Alvarenga is a principal associate in the Real Estate Law Department of Garrigues, a firm he joined in 2014, where he practices in the areas of real estate, corporate and financial law.
He works in the main real estate transactions in Spain, both for national and international clients, with the most important and active real estate operators in the market (investment funds, private equity funds, institutional hedge clients, family offices, etc.).
He has extensive experience in the real estate sector, advising companies in all types of real estate asset acquisitions (logistics warehouses, hotels, office buildings, shopping centers, etc.), as well as in the management of real estate portfolios, real estate project developments, financing and refinancing, divestment processes and the incorporation of in rem guarantees. He also advises clients on funding processes under the framework of the acquisition of real estate assets.
Experience
Javier has extensive experience in all legal issues related to real estate investment, particularly in sales and acquisitions of real estate assets (asset sale and purchase transactions, sale and purchase of real estate companies, forward funding, forward purchase and sale and lease back), development, construction, leasing and finance.
He has advised on numerous transactions involving the acquisition, development and leasing of logistics warehouses, office buildings, hotels, shopping centers, residential developments (build to rent), student residences, etc. and the subsequent divestment thereof, advising a broad portfolio of clients, including national and international investors, investment funds, real estate companies, developers, financial institutions, construction companies and real estate management companies, as well as family offices and corporate clients, actively participating in some of the largest transactions in the Spanish market.
Javier also has extensive experience in the acquisition of assets in distress, loan default portfolios and assets subject to insolvency proceedings.
Fluent in English and Catalan and also able to communicate in German.
Academic background
- Law Degree from Universidad de Navarra.
- Master’s Degree in International Business Law from Universidad de Navarra.
- Double Master’s Degree in Business and Company Law and University Master’s Degree for Access to the Legal Profession from the ESADE Business & Law School.
