Mexico: The Federal Electricity Commission presents a portfolio of 58 Electric transmission projects and announces new bids
Against the backdrop of the country’s growing electricity demand, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) seeks to promote the development of multiple projects as part of its 2025–2030 Expansion Plan.
On March 22, 2026, the CFE presented an expanded portfolio of electricity transmission and transformation projects for the 2026-2027 period, aimed at strengthening the national transmission grid and promoting greater coordination between the government and the private sector to ensure the development of essential electricity infrastructure.
According to the information presented, the plan includes 58 projects grouped into 49 bidding packages, which together represent 387 new projects, including 138 transmission lines and 249 electrical substations.
The projects will be carried out through blended finance schemes such as Fibra-E (a scheme under which 44 projects grouped into 35 bidding packages will be developed) and publicly funded infrastructure projects. This combination aims to accelerate the deployment of infrastructure without compromising the government’s operation and control of the power grid.
With the proposed new infrastructure, the CFE aims to address various objectives of the planning process, including:
- Meeting demand.
- Maintaining and improving the reliability of the electric power system.
- Minimizing congestion in the transmission grid.
- Encouraging efficient expansion of generation capacity.
- Implementing smart grid technologies.
- Reducing total production costs.
Currently, five projects are already in the bidding process, with an investment exceeding 1.048 billion pesos, and it is anticipated that in the coming months, additional bids will be published for 14 projects with an investment of 6.781 billion pesos, primarily aimed at reinforcing regional systems facing high demand pressure.
These projects are as follows:
