Garrigues wins four awards from Latin Finance for its project and infrastructure work

Latin America -

The team garners further recognition for its legal advice on four key development financing deals in Latin America.

The annual Latin Finance Projects and Infrastructure Finance Awards recognize standout project and infrastructure transactions in Latin America, a field considered fundamental for the region’s economic advancement. Four project finance deals that Garrigues advised on, led from the Chile and Colombia offices, came top on this occasion.

The winning Latin American deals in their respective categories were: Chacao Plus (Infrastructure Financing of the Year: Southern Cone); Hospital de Bosa (Social Infrastructure Financing of the Year); GIP Patagonia/Chile Renewables (Renewable Energy Financing of the Year); and Puerto Antioquia (Port Financing of the Year).

The Santiago de Chile team advised the creditors on the USD 987 million in financing obtained from banks and via a bond issue for the acquisition by GMH Holdings S.A. of an energy assets portfolio (Chacao Plus) owned by EDF and AME. This project supports Chile’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050, since part of the financing will be used to develop, build and operate what will be the largest solar plant in Chile in the Atacama region.

The same team worked on the USD 310 million international finance deal for the purchase of a stake in Chile Renovables (part of AES Andes) by Global Infrastructure Partners. Bringing on board this new strategic partner forms part of the company’s objective of continuing to decarbonize its portfolio.

For its part, the Bogotá team advised Hospital de Bosa on the first social infrastructure project in Colombia financed under a public-private partnership.

It also advised Global Infrastructure Partners on the financing granted for the development of the Port of Antioquia in northern Colombia. This project will reduce the logistic cost of cargo in the Gulf of Urabá area.

So far in 2022, thanks to its local teams in Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, Garrigues has maintained its position as one of the most award-winning law firms in the area of project and infrastructure finance. Other accolades received during the year include recognition at the Latin Lawyer 2022 Deals of the Year Awards, the IJ Global Awards 2022, the 2022 Proximo Infrastructure Deals of the Year Awards and the Latin Finance 2022 Deals of the Year Awards.
