Garrigues tops the rankings in terms of value and number of M&A deals in the first half of 2018
Garrigues leads the rankings of law firms by value and number of M&A deals in Spain in the first half of 2018, according to business intelligence platform TTR. The firm is also ranked top by Mergermarket by number of deals.
In the first six months of the year, Garrigues closed 57 deals, 36 (171%) more than in the same period last year, according to TTR data. The firm’s M&A deals were valued at €15,075 million, an increase of €8,621 million or 133.57%. One of the traits that sets Garrigues apart from other firms is precisely its capacity to lead the rankings on both accounts: in terms of value, as the characteristics of its domestic clients (83% of the companies listed on the Ibex35 worked with the firm in 2017) and its international clients enable it to be present in major deals, and in terms of number of deals, due to its extensive coverage of the Spanish market, with offices in 18 cities.
Garrigues took the top spot in TTR’s private equity and venture capital segment in terms of deal value, with a total of €8,258 million, an increase of 114% on the first half of 2017. In total, the firm advised on 25 deals (up 92%), taking second place in terms of number, just one behind the top-ranked firm.
Mónica Martín de Vidales and Álvaro López-Jorrín, the partners jointly in charge of Garrigues corporate/commercial law practice, confirm that business activity in Spain continues to grow apace, nurtured by the economic recovery. The appeal of the Spanish market is further increased by financing terms, favoring corporate deals in different sectors.
