Juan Luis Zayas has been a partner in the Tax Law Department of Garrigues since 2003, a firm where he has developed his professional career after his time at Arthur Andersen where he joined in 1991. He works in the area of tax law, particularly in relation to advising on M&A transactions and estate and succession planning. He is also the partner in charge of the Family Business and Private Clients area in the Madrid office and of the Garrigues Technical Tax Committee.

In the field of M&A, he has extensive experience in the analysis and planning of investment and divestment structures and corporate reorganisations (mergers, spin-offs and contributions). He regularly participates in company acquisitions and transfers, in corporate group restructuring transactions and in the implementation of acquisition structures in private equity transactions. 

As head of the family business area in the Madrid office, he specialises in estate and succession planning, in advising on the reorganisation of family groups, the drafting of protocols and, in general, in advising family businesses and private clients on legal and tax matters. In this area he also collaborates on a recurring basis with the main Spanish and foreign private banking institutions and family business associations.

Degree in Law from Universidad Complutense, Madrid.

He is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences at Universities and specialised centres as well as at various associations and entities.

Member of the Madrid Bar Association.

Since 2008 he has been recurrently listed for inclusion in the main international directories such as Chambers & Partners or Best Lawyers as an outstanding lawyer in the practices of Tax Law and Wealth Management.
