Ignacio Díez-Picazo is of counsel in the Dispute Resolution, Litigation and Arbitration department of Garrigues. He has extensive experience as a lawyer in complex commercial litigation, as well as in domestic and international arbitration procedures. He is a chair professor of Procedural Law (on leave) and a former Legal Counsel to the Spanish Constitutional Court. He is a member of the Procedural Law Fifth Section of the General Codification Commission, an official consulting body pertaining to the Ministry of Justice. He is president of the Spanish Business Litigation Club (CEL), and the author of numerous publications on procedural law.
Experience
Ignacio Díez-Picazo has extensive experience as a lawyer in complex commercial litigation as well as in international arbitration, having advised major corporations. He is a recognized arbitrator and has worked intensively in the preparation of legal opinions and reports.
He has been a lawyer for some of the main Spanish companies and major foreign businesses in the financial, energy, construction, communication and services sectors.
Ignacio has previous experience as a partner in international law firms and, later, as managing partner of his own family office, Díez-Picazo Abogados, specialized in conflict resolution in the fields of civil and commercial law.
He is a member on leave of the Constitutional Court’s Counsel Body, on which he served as legal counsel to the president of the Constitutional Court.

- PhD in Law, University of Bologna (Italy), Summa cum laude, Winner of the Avvocato Mario Jachia prize; fellow of the Real Colegio de España in Bologna (Italy).
Teaching activity
Ignacio Díez-Picazo has taught Procedural Law for thirty-six years. Currently, he is Chair Professor of Procedural Law on leave. He has been Full Professor at the Universidad de Extremadura and Universidad Complutense de Madrid, as well as Chair Professor at Universidad de Extremadura, Universidad San Pablo CEU, and Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
Memberships
He is a member of the Procedural Law Fifth Section of of the General Codification Commission, an official consulting body pertaining to the Ministry of Justice.
He is president of the Spanish Business Litigation Club (Club Español de la Litigación de los Negocios), a member of the International Association of Procedural Law, a member of the Spanish and Ibero-American Arbitration Club (Club Español e Iberoamericano del Arbitraje), a member of the Academic Council of FIDE Foundation, and a member of the Association of Professors of Procedural Law of Spanish Universities (Asociación de Profesores de Derecho Procesal de las Universidades Españolas).
He is a correspondent member of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation of Spain and a member of its Procedural Law section.
