Francisco Belmar is a senior associate in the Dispute Resolution: Litigation and Arbitration area at Garrigues’ Santiago de Chile office. His practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation, and includes experience in engineering and construction disputes, administrative penalty law, protection appeals and bankruptcy and reorganization proceedings. He has an extensive track record at law firms and in the private sector, having participated in proceedings before the ordinary and arbitration courts in Chile in various areas of litigation.
Experience
Before joining Garrigues, Francisco was a senior associate at Barros Silva Varela & Vigil (2024–2026) and an associate at Guerrero Iturra Abogados (2018–2024), where he gained a wealth of experience in civil and commercial litigation, before the ordinary and arbitration courts, in declaratory, enforcement and insolvency proceedings, as well as in administrative penalty proceedings and constitutional litigation. He has represented clients in a wide variety of industries, such as agriculture, mining, wind project development, electricity, finance, construction, real estate and telecommunications, among others.
He was formerly an associate at Sociedad Recuperadora de Cartera S.A. (2017–2018), where he participated in mass debt collection proceedings, and an associate at Cabello Letonja y Cía. (2016–2017), where he gained experience in corporate matters. He started his career as a paralegal at Carey y Cía. (2014).
He was a teaching assistant in the course on Constitutional Law in the Faculty of Law at Universidad de Chile.
