Garrigues picks up two awards as ‘Tax Firm of the Year’ in Spain and Portugal at the ‘European Tax Awards’

Garrigues has been awarded the ‘European Tax Awards’ for ‘Tax Firm of the Year in Spain’ and ‘Tax Firm of the Year in Portugal’. These awards are granted every year by the International Tax Review to recognize the excellence of European firms in their respective countries. For Garrigues, the sum of these two awards consolidates its leadership in the Iberian tax services market.
Garrigues has been awarded the ‘European Tax Awards’ for ‘Tax Firm of the Year in Spain’ and ‘Tax Firm of the Year in Portugal’. These awards are granted every year by the International Tax Review to recognize the excellence of European firms in their respective countries. For Garrigues, the sum of these two awards consolidates its leadership in the Iberian tax services market. The awards ceremony was held last night at London’s Dorchester Hotel.
This is the sixth year in a row that Garrigues has emerged victorious, making it the only firm to walk off with top honors at all the annual ‘European Tax Awards’. The Firm was also nominated in the category of ‘Transfer Pricing Firm of the Year’. Garrigues’ Portuguese tax practice has for the first time achieved the highest accolade after having consistently ranked well in these awards. Since the Portuguese team was set up just four years ago, the department has been a finalist in this same category in the last three years and has always been included in the first tier of the World Tax directory published annually by International Tax Review.
Garrigues’ Tax Department currently comprises over 600 professionals specializing in general taxation, international taxation, transfer pricing, VAT and indirect taxes, local taxation, family businesses, and tax procedures and litigation.
As well as recognizing the work of the Garrigues tax specialists and their advisory services in major transactions, the panel of judges also took into account the Firm’s strong position in the international market. In this regard, a pivotal role was played by Taxand, the global network of independent pure tax firms, of which Garrigues is a founding member. Taxand was one of the stars of the ‘European Tax Awards’, being named ‘European Indirect Tax Firm of the Year’.
This award takes its place alongside the ‘Latin America Tax Firm of the Year,’ granted recently by International Tax Review at the ‘Americas Tax Awards 2009’. Individually, three Taxand firms also picked up awards: the firms from Greece (Zepos & Yannopoulos) and Ukraine (Magisters) have been recognized as the best in their respective countries, and the Polish firm (Accreo) won the award in the transfer pricing category.
