Garrigues’ Partners’ Meeting approved bringing forward the renewal of Fernando Vives’ term as the firm’s executive chairman, which was due to expire on 31 January 2028, for a new six year term running until June 2032. The partners adopted this resolution unanimously, considering it to be the strategic decision that best prepares the firm to face the future at a time of significant challenges and opportunities for the sector.

“It is a great honour and a great responsibility that the partners have once again placed their trust in me so clearly. I hope to contribute all my efforts to continuing and consolidating the roadmap we have embarked upon and to achieving the ambitious goals we have set for the coming years, so that the firm continues to strengthen its ethical and professional leadership in all the markets in which it operates –a task that is not, and has never been, an individual endeavour, but a collective one”, said Vives. This marks the sixth time that the Partners’ Meeting has renewed his mandate.

Fernando Vives (Madrid, 8 October 1962) has been executive chairman and managing partner of Garrigues since 2009. He holds a PhD in Law cum laude and a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE). He has more than 35 years’ experience practising business law and specialises, among other areas, in securities law, corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions.

He is a Full Member of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation of Spain and has been awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit and the Cross of Honour of the Order of St. Raymond of Peñafort.

The leading international legal directories (Chambers, Legal 500, IFLR, among others) have recognised him for many years as one of the most prestigious lawyers across different categories. In 2025 alone, he received the following distinctions: Iberia Lawyer of the Year (Legal 500 Iberia Awards 2025); Best Lawyer (Forbes Best Lawyer 2025); and the Puñetas Award for Career Achievement (Association of Legal Communicators and Journalists – ACIJUR). For many years, he has also featured among the 100 Spanish leaders with the strongest reputations, according to the Merco Companies and Leaders monitor.
