Garrigues presented its 2006 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) ReportAbre ventana nueva today in Madrid. The report examines in detail the economic, social and environmental situation of the Firm, whose strategic objective is to achieve sustainable business growth and promote transparency in the information it provides to all of its stakeholders.

In Spain, the preparation of CSR reports is a widespread practice among listed companies. However, the publication of such a report by a law firm breaks new ground in the services sector. In keeping with its reputation as an innovator, Garrigues has thus become the first major Spanish law firm to publish its own CSR Report.

The report—published in both Spanish and English—has been assured by AENOR, and awarded the highest possible application level (A+) under the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines. The guidelines establish that exhaustive information must be included on the 79 performance indicators relating to the economic, environmental and social conduct of the Firm.

After defining Garrigues’ organizational profile, the report goes on to outline the system of governance in place, its management fundamentals and mechanisms, as well as the Firm’s economic, social and environmental commitments.

The preparation of the report required the cooperation and collaboration of all of the Firm’s internal departments (Human Resources, Professional Practice, Administration, General Services, Communication and Marketing, Technology, Knowledge Management and the Medical Service), as well as the Garrigues Sustainability Working Group, comprising representatives from the Labor and Employment, Human Capital Services, Corporate/Commercial, Tax and Environmental Departments. The Garrigues Foundation and Centro de Estudios Garrigues were also involved.

The publication of the CSR Report was ratified at the end of June by the Partners’ Meeting and it is Garrigues’ intention to continue publishing it annually.
