Garrigues and AENOR will offset Carbon Expo 2009

Garrigues Medio Ambiente, the consultancy branch of Garrigues, will inventory and offset Carbon Expo 2009 GHG emissions, being the process verified by AENOR.
GHG emissions within Fira de Barcelona premises will be calculated ex-ante, monitored during the event and adjusted ex-post. Voluntary Emission Reductions will be retired accordingly in order to make Carbon Expo 2009 carbon neutral.

"Obtaining the certificate ‘Marca AENOR Emisiones de CO2 Compensadas’ (CO2 Emissions Offset) by Carbon Expo 2009 event demonstrates the willingness of the international even to neutralize the issue of greenhouse gases, becoming an example for businesses and organizations that will host during its celebration" explains José Luis Tejera, AENOR Development Manager.

The Project chosen by Garrigues to perform the offsetting is a 29.7 MW wind farm located in Karnataka, India, which was registered as a CDM on the 20th November 2008 . The carbon credits used for the offsetting will be pre-CDM credits, from the 2008 vintage and according to the VCS standard (2007 version). The developer of the project is Acciona Wind Energy Pvt. Ltd. (AWEPL). The transaction has been brokered by Capital Markets.

Currently, AENOR develops over 150 projects in various countries in Latin America, Asia and Africa, many of them with the World Bank. AENOR also granted the first license Marca AENOR Emisiones de CO2 Reducidas (CO2 Emissions Reduce) at the Madrid-Barcelona air shuttle , managed by Iberia Airlines, adding to the Marca AENOR Emisiones de CO2 Compensadas (CO2 Emissions Offset).
