José Ramón Morales has been a partner in the Corporate/Commercial Law Department since 2002 and heads the Firm’s Technology & Outsourcing industry group. He is also a member of the Garrigues Smart Cities group.
He is an expert in corporate and commercial law, as well as in information technology law. He has participated in a number of M&A transactions, reorganizations, and private equity (including venture capital) deals. He has a wealth of expertise in legal advice on corporate, regulatory and transactional aspects in the area of technology and digital business projects and transactions, where he is a renowned expert.
He has taken part in high-profile corporate transactions (including investments, strategic alliances and joint-venture agreements) across a range of areas such as banking, payment instruments, tourism, mobile services and apps, e-Government and Smart Cities projects, online content, online marketing and social media, to mention but a few.
He has provided legal advice to global players and emerging companies on a large number of projects related to the digital services market (including cloud-based services, social media, and mobile services and apps). He is an expert in providing legal support to tech-based and digital business start-ups and emerging companies.
He has a solid track record in outsourcing projects and agreements, advising customers and vendors both in information technology and in business process outsourcing deals, with a particular emphasis on the financial industry, where he has participated in some of the most relevant and complex outsourcing transactions in Spain in recent years.
He has acted as a Secretary on the Board of various companies (including venture capital funds, emerging companies and joint-venture companies) operating in the technology and digital services arena.
José Ramón Morales has been singled out by several legal directories, such as Legal 500 Europe (mentioned as a “Leading Individual” in Telecommunications, Media and Technology), Chambers & Partners in its Chambers Europe’s edition (TMT-IT), PLC Which Lawyer (Outsourcing) and Best Lawyers (Information Technology Law).
He collaborates as a lecturer on various programs at Centro de Estudios Garrigues, and he has lectured on many courses and seminars on corporate and information technology law (ESADE, IESE, Instituto de Empresa, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, La Salle-URL, IQS-URL). He is a regular speaker at the conferences of the International Technology Law Association.
He is a member of the Barcelona Bar Association. He is also member of the Board of Directors of the International Technology Law Association, as well as its Outsourcing Committee. He is a member of the Legal Committee at aDigital (the Spanish Digital Economy Association). He also sits on various committees at CEOE (Confederación Española de Organizaciones Empresariales), such as the New Technologies Committee and the Entrepreneurs and Business Promotion Committee.
José Ramón Morales holds a Law Degree from Universidad de Barcelona.
He has attended various international programs and seminars, including one on the US Legal System (the Harvard Law School “Program of Instruction for Lawyers”, 2001) and on the Internet and IT Law (the Harvard Law School “Internet Law Program”, 2005).
