# Garrigues strengthens its presence in Chile by hiring labor law expert Barbara Vera

Garrigues has hired Barbara Vera, a lawyer with more than 10 years’ experience in labor law in the Chilean market, to strengthen and lead the firm’s labor and employment law department in Chile.
Vera, who previously worked in the labor departments of the Claro and Carey law firms, was also the head of the department at Codelco, one of the largest Chilean groups, where she advised on individual and collective labor law matters. She has also been an international consultant on Chilean labor law for the Inter-American Development Bank.
Labor law is a key area in the firm’s practice worldwide. By taking on Barbara Vera, Garrigues reinforces its commitment to Chile and is in a better position to provide strategic solutions of high added value to its clients in cross-border scenarios.
Luis Felipe Merino, managing partner of Garrigues Chile, stated that “hiring Barbara Vera is a clear step forward in our strategy to consolidate our position as the leading corporate legal advisory firm in Chile. Labor law is a key area in the business world in which our clients operate and Garrigues wants to have a labor law practice in Chile that is at the same level as the other areas.”
Barbara Vera said that she is excited about this new project at Garrigues, “where having a regional establishment will be decisive, especially in an area such as labor law”.
Garrigues already has more than 30 lawyers in Chile and more than 120 in Latin America, where it operates in Bogota (Colombia), Lima (Peru), Mexico City (Mexico), and São Paulo (Brazil), as well as in Santiago de Chile.
