Álvaro is a partner in the Corporate/Commercial Department in Madrid. His practice area is focused on corporate law advice, mergers & acquisitions, restructurings, joint ventures and commercial contracts. He also advises on project finance matters.
He specializes in the energy industry. His practice and experience comprise commercial transactions, project development and specialized contracts in the electricity, gas and oil industries, as well as regulatory advice on the specific legislation applicable to these industries.
Previously, Álvaro was in charge of setting up the firm’s office in Lima (Peru), where he was director for several years. During his time in Peru he advised both local operators and foreign investors and entities on their entry into and business development and transactions in the Peruvian market. In coordination with Garrigues’ Latin American offices he advised on cross-border deals in the region and provided support for Peruvian investments abroad.
In 2003 he worked as an International Associate at the U.S. firm Hunton & Williams in Miami.
He is a lecturer in master’s and post-graduate courses at Centro de Estudios Garrigues and at the Spanish Energy Club (Enerclub) on energy-related matters and in various courses and seminars at Universidad San Pablo-CEU.
He was recognized by the prestigious review Iberian Lawyer as “one of the most brilliant young lawyers in Spain and Portugal” for his professional career and his social commitment, in the fourth edition of the 40underForty awards. Highlighted by the publication Best Lawyers in Spain in the areas of Natural Resources Law, Project Finance and Development Practice and Structured Finance Law. This publication recognized him as Lawyer of the Year in Structured Finance Law in 2017.
