Garrigues posted revenues of €386.9 million in 2020. Its growth – 1.4% in euros compared with 2019 – was curbed by the sharp fall in the exchange rate in the Latin American countries where the firm is present due to the pandemic’s impact on their economies: at a constant exchange rate and scope, the firm’s revenues grew 3.6% in 2020.
Garrigues has once again been named, in the Merco Talento ranking, among the companies best at attracting and retaining talent. The law firm has managed to come 35th in the ranking (up three positions on the last edition). What is more, in the analysis by sectors, it remains in first place.
In Spain, Garrigues has received two law firm of the year awards for its copyright advisory services and industrial property agency services, and in Portugal, it won the law firm of the year award in the advisory and contentious category
Garrigues has boosted the tax department in Portugal by taking on Miguel Pimentel to coordinate the Portuguese international taxation practice. Pimentel joins partners Pedro Miguel Braz, department director and coordinator of the Portuguese tax litigation practice, and Fernando Castro Silva, in charge of the tax advisory practice, on the task of leading a team with more than thirty practitioners. Garrigues tax department has in this way strengthened its positioning in the Iberian market: today it was recognized for another year running as Tier 1 in the Chambers Europe directory for both Portugal and Spain.
On International Data Protection Day, the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) honored Foundation 29 as one of the two recipients tying for the Award for Proactivity and Best Practices in comply with the General Data Protection Regulation and the Spanish Law on Personal Data Protection and the Safeguard of Digital Rights (Category A) for its project HealthData 29 Playbook, a guide to creating a public data repository of health systems, in which Garrigues advised.

The reputation monitor has just released the latest edition of its Responsibility and Corporate Governance ranking in which our firm holds the 65th spot. In the industry classification (Lawyers), Garrigues ranks first.
‘Becoming Net Zero’, Garrigues’ initiative for energy efficiency and sustainability, has been chosen by Comunidad #PorElClima to form part of the 101 examples of actions implemented by businesses to combat the climate emergency. Comunidad #PorElClima is a multi-stakeholder alliance focused on implementing the Paris Agreement in Spain and recognizing the commitment and ambition by Spanish companies to bring about climate change. In this, the third edition, 62 large companies and 39 small and medium-sized companies from over 20 different business sectors have been chosen. Garrigues is the only law firm singled out in the legal sector.
The Garrigues Partners’ Meeting has approved the appointment of thirteen new equity partners from the firm’s offices in Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Murcia, Valencia, Vigo and Santiago de Chile. These new appointments take the total number of partners to 320.
Garrigues has launched the anti-trust, economic regulation and intellectual property practice in Lima, bringing on board lawyer Ivo Gagliuffi and economist Javier Coronado. With more than twenty years’ experience in the public and private sector, the pair will coordinate the practice and provide an integrated approach, from both a legal and economic standpoint, giving it a competitive advantage in the Peruvian market.
