# Spain leads the way in groundbreaking R&D&I projects on aeronautical logistics using drones

**The future of mobility features the aeronautical industry which, with its constant concern for R&D&I, is becoming a vector for sustainable growth in the medium and long term with groundbreaking and innovative projects.**
In this area, operating with drones (RPAs) is attracting a large amount of domestic and international investment, which is contributing to positioning Spain and the Spanish brand as a worldwide hub for innovation in air logistics with the use of drones.
Pilot logistics projects, such as, for example, those related to last mile deliveries with drones - turning the sky into another layer of mobility - are breaking ground in Spain. But these important advances also imply legal and safety considerations which must be suitably taken into account.
All of this was discussed in a webinar on drones and Spanish talent and groundbreaking R&D&I projects in the aeronautical industry (‘*Drones y talento español: proyectos pioneros de I+D+I en el sector aeronáutico*’), organized by Garrigues and coordinated by María Marelza Cózar, a senior associate at the firm. Yet again, Garrigues and AEDAE (the Spanish Air and Space Law Association), joined forces to organize this conference on drones, analyzing groundbreaking and innovative Spanish-brand drones projects, from a public and private standpoint, with the participation of Expodrónica, Proyecto H2020, UNVEX, BFAero, INECO, the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, and the Spanish National Police Force and Air Force.
Speakers at the conference talked about a major project led by Aragon by creating the first logistics city operated with drones, as well as two projects in Galicia that are creating real growth for the region and for the country as a whole. INECO gave a real life perspective of the use of RPAs in the railway industry, describing the value that this initiative is creating for the more than 5,000 kilometers of railway track in Spain. And in the public sector, the subjects addressed included control over urban air space by air police, and the international repercussions of projects led by the Office of the Subsecretary for R&D&I attached to the Ministry of the Interior; as well as air surveillance and border control in domestic airspace carried out using the air force.
