## [Retirement age increase in 2019](/en_GB/new/retirement-age-increase-2019) # Retirement age increase in 2019 Portugal - 01 / 18 / 2018 - - [](https://www.linkedin.com/sharing/share-offsite/?url=https://www.garrigues.com/en_GB/new/retirement-age-increase-2019) - []() - []() Previous Next **[Ordinance no. 25/2018, of January 18](https://dre.pt/application/file/a/114541589), was published today, increasing the standard age to access retirement pension in the Portuguese general social security system to 66 years and 5 months.** This increase was pursuant to Decree-Law no. 187/20076, of May 10, which determined the gradual increase of the standard age to access the retirement pension in the Social Security general system, considering the average life expectancy at 65 years old, determined between the second and third year prior to the commencement of the pension. Ordinance no. 25/2018, of January 18, settled as well the sustainable factor of 0,8550 to be applicable in early retirements to be granted or converted during 2018.
