**Garrigues partner Juan Verdugo analyzes the recovery of non-performing loans in light of the recent decision by the Directorate-General of Registries and the Notarial Profession (DGRN) on issuing enforceable copies of public deeds**
In an article published by Aranzadi entitled *Reflexiones sobre la resolución de la Dirección General de Registros y Notariado de 28 de junio de 2018 sobre la emisión de copias ejecutivas de escrituras públicas* (*Reflections on the decision by the Directorate-General of Registries and the Notarial Profession on June 28, 2018 on issuing enforceable copies of public deeds*) our partner discussed the DGRN’s new interpretation on issuing enforceable copies of public deeds and its impact on the NPLs (non-performing loans) market. We explained this in our previous [issue](http://www.garrigues.com/en_GB/new/funds-will-be-able-recover-npls-more-quickly-following-decision-directorate-general-registries).
The FIDE foundation (Fundación para la Investigación sobre el Derecho y la Empresa) invited our partner to open a conference on October 1, 2018 on the DGRN’s new decision on enforceable instruments, addressed to explain the relevance of this new interpretation which concerns notaries.
**Garrigues takes part in the main domestic and international restructuring and insolvency events**
The Garrigues R&I department’s professionals have taken an active part in recent months in the main domestic and international R&I events.
Garrigues partner **Adrián Thery** spoke on a panel on the theme of *NPLs: a solution or a mistake* at the Insol Europe 2018 Annual Congress held in Athens (Greece) between October 4 and October 7 2018.
And partner **Juan Verdugo** took part in the [*9th Restructuring & Insolvency Forum*](https://united-kingdom.taylorwessing.com/en/event/view/1105) held in Biarritz (France) on September 13, 14 and 15, to discuss the latest trends in cross-border insolvencies.
Juan Verdugo also spoke at the European Restructuring Meeting: Brexit implications, a conference held in London on September 21, at which he analyzed, alongside other European firms, the impact on cross-border insolvencies of the various Brexit alternatives.
**Carlos Lama** (principal associate in the R&I department) spoke on September 14 at a conference held by foundation [*Fundación para el Conocimiento madri+d*](http://www.madrimasd.org/) on mentoring for distressed companies. The conference focused on insolvency and pre-insolvency mechanisms, early warning signs of insolvency and measures for overcoming it.
Our partner Adrián Thery will speak at the [Congress on *Reestructuraciones de sociedades de capital en crisis. (Perspectivas europea y latinoamericana)*](https://congresoreestructuraciones.wordpress.com/programa/) (Restructurings of capital companies in crisis -European and Latin American perspectives) to be held on November 5 and November 6 in Madrid with a presentation on *Extensión y arrastre de acreedores. División en clases* (*Extension and creditor cram down. Division in classes*) Our colleague **Iván Heredia** will also speak at the Congress on *Third party releases in cross-border restructurings*.
Adrián Thery will also speak at [XIV Congreso del Instituto Iberoamericano de Derecho Concursal](https://www.congresoiberoamericanoderechoconcursal.org/programa/) (15th Congress held by the Iberian and Latin American Institute for Insolvency Law) to be held between November 7 and November 9 in Malaga with The World Bank, UNCITRAL and the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy (INSOL) among its participants. The subject will be *Una visión comparada de la insolvencia* (*A comparative view of insolvency*).
