**Juan María Jiménez, new partner in the Garrigues Restructuring and Insolvency Department**
The Garrigues partners’ meeting held on October 25 approved the appointment of fifteen new partners, and among them, **Juan María Jiménez**, in the Madrid Restructuring and Insolvency Department.
**Garrigues restructuring and insolvency specialists among the top lawyers in Spain on the Best Lawyers list**
Another year in a row our partners **Borja García-Alamán, Adrián Thery, Juan Verdugo and Juan María Jiménez** achieved recognition by the Best Lawyers directory among the top lawyers in Spain in the Insolvency and Reorganization Law practice area.
**International Financial Law Review (IFRL 1000) has singled out three of our partners in the Restructuring and Insolvency practice area, in which Garrigues is regularly ranked as tier 1**

**Garrigues takes part in a seminar on the possible impact of Brexit on Spain focusing on restructuring and insolvency matters, organized by TMA and NextGen España**
On November 12 lecturer and Garrigues associate **Iván Heredia** spoke on the impact that the future withdrawal by the United Kingdom from Europe will have on cross-border restructuring and insolvency proceedings.
**Adrián Thery joins Francisco J. Garcimartín and Amparo López Senovilla as participants in a seminar cycle at FIDE on the Proposal for a Directive on restructuring and second chance**
**Adrián Thery** was one of the speakers, alongside Francisco J. Garcimartín and Amparo López Senovilla, in a new seminar cycle held by FIDE [(Fundación para la Investigación del Derecho y la Empresa)](https://www.fidefundacion.es/agenda/CICLO-DE-SESIONES-La-Propuesta-de-Directiva-sobre-reestructuracion-y-segunda-oportunidad-II_ae608659.html) focusing on the Proposal for a Directive on restructuring and second chance, and the most relevant elements from a Spanish standpoint.
**Presentation of a work on pre-insolvency and insolvency law for capital companies ('Derecho preconcursal y concursal de sociedad mercantiles de capital')**
Centro de Estudios Garrigues hosted a presentation on December 18, 2018 of a new book edited by Wolters Kluwer and coordinated by lecturer and Garrigues associate **Andrés Gutiérrez Gilsanz**. Among its authors are respected lecturers at the University of Bologna and three members of the Garrigues Restructuring and Insolvency Department. The presentation was led by **Juana Pulgar**, full professor (*catedrática*) of corporate/commercial law and member of the recently created special panel of the General Codification Committee.
**Adrián Thery joins speakers Aurelio Gurrea, Diego Comendador and Matilde Cuena in a roundtable discussion at FIDE on insolvency law issues in Spain**

**Adrián Thery and Juan Verdugo will take part as speakers in the Cátedra Garrigues on Modernization of Companies Law hosted by the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas-ICADE**
On February 4, 2019, our partners will take part as speakers in a seminar on business crisis and reorganization of the capital structure and of the corporate governance. The topics which shall be discussed are *The corporate interests of distressed companies and duty shifting: roles of the directors and shareholders of distressed companies* (Prof. **Recamán Graña** and **Juan Verdugo**) and *Cross-class cram-down and the absolute priority rule* (Prof. Garcimartín Alférez and **Adrián Thery**).
