**This index is the reference for several social security benefits.**
The evolution of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the 12‑month average change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) resulted in a 2,80% increase in the indexing reference for social benefits, setting it at € 537,13 for the year 2026.
So, [Ordinance n.º 480-A/2025/1, of December 30th](https://diariodarepublica.pt/dr/detalhe/portaria/480-a-2025-993056222) was published in Portugal’s Official Gazette, increasing the indexing reference for social benefits in 14,63 euros, from € 522,50 (in 2025) to € 537,13 (in 2026).
The indexing reference for social aid is the reference used to establish, calculate and update several social security aids, such as unemployment benefit.
