# The Official Journal of the European Union publishes the Regulation on prohibiting products made with forced labor on the Union market

**The regulation will include the possibility for the competent authorities to prohibit the placing and making available on the Union market of products made with forced labor or exporting such products. It may also require companies to withdraw and dispose of these products.**
Regulation (EU) 2024/3015 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 November 2024 on prohibiting products made with forced labor on the Union market, which we discussed in our [Publication](https://www.garrigues.com/en_GB/new/regulation-prohibiting-products-made-forced-labor-entering-eu-market-approved) of April 2024, was published in the Official Journal of the European Union ([OJEU](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32024R3015)) on December 12, 2024, following its approval by the European Parliament.
The published text sets out the essential dates to be taken into consideration in the implementation of this important Regulation:
- The regulation grants a period of one year, until December 14, 2025, for Member States to designate one or more competent authorities that will be responsible for carrying out the obligations set out in the regulation.
- By June 14, 2026, the European Commission must make available to the public a database providing evidence-based, verifiable and regularly updated information on forced labor risks in specific geographic areas or with respect to specific products or product groups, including with regard to forced labor imposed by state authorities.
- Also, by June 14, 2026, the European Commission must make guidelines available that include guidance for economic operators on due diligence in relation to forced labor and best practices, as well as guidance for competent authorities on the practical implementation of the Regulation.
The Regulation entered into force on December 13, 2024, and will be applicable from December 14, 2027.
