# Mexico: Minimum wage increase agreed for 2026

**Members of the National Commission on Minimum Wages (CONSAMI) have announced that they have reached an agreement to increase the minimum wage for 2026, specifically by 5% in the free zone of the northern border and by 13% in the rest of the country. With this, salaries will become at $440.87 and $315.04 per day, respectively. The objective of this measure is for the minimum wage to reach two basic baskets.**
On December 3, 2025, it was announced that the members of the National Commission on Minimum Wages (CONASAMI) had reached an agreement for a 13% increase in the general minimum wage and professional minimum wages, and 5% in the free zone of the northern border.
In this way, minimum wages would be made as follows as of January 1, 2026:
- **Northern border free zone:** the minimum wage goes from $419.88 pesos to $440.87 pesos per day, eliminating the independent recovery amount (MIR).
- **Rest of the country:** the general minimum wage goes from $278.80 pesos to $315.04 pesos per day, integrating a 6.5% increase and a MIR of $17.01 pesos.
It is important to note that the increase in minimum wages shall not serve as a basis for reviewing wages above these amounts, whether under individual employment agreements or in collective bargaining agreements. We anticipate that this adjustment will create significant pressure on companies, as workers and unions will continue to seek considerable increases to recover the purchasing power of wages. Companies will need to work on negotiation and communication strategies to control the expectations of unions and workers.
