Garrigues was also one of the finalists (the only Spanish law firm) nominated in the category ‘European Law Firm of the Year. This award, of great prestige and long tradition in the legal sector, recognizes important aspects such as strategy, innovation in client service, talent management, economic performance and most recent engagements. In this edition, large cross-border engagements involving various jurisdictions played a significant role in the final decision of the jury. Garrigues participated in some of the largest and most complex transactions of the year, such as the formation of Coca-Cola European Partners, the sale of the Latin American assets of Endesa, the merger of UIL Holdings Corporation and Iberdrola USA, and the acquisition of Pepe Jeans by M1 and L Capital. Apart from its legal counsel on significant transactions, Garrigues was also recognized for its international expansion, in particular for the consolidation of its Latin American practice with more than 100 local lawyers. The firm’s strategic commitment to this region has made Garrigues the European law firm with the largest network of its own offices in Latin America. The firm now has offices in Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Brazil and Chile (the latter office was inaugurated just this week following the integration of the Chilean law firm Avendaño Medino). The jury also valued the growing activity of Garrigues on other European and North American markets, as well as its expansion in Asia, with the opening of the Chinese office in Beijing, which joined that of Shanghai, in operation for more than ten years. “The award bestowed on us by *The Lawyer* recognizes the work of the entire firm in a very important year for us. 2015 brought major advances, especially in the consolidation of our Latin American practice. This award reaffirms our resolute international commitment. We are very proud”, explained Fernando Vives.
