**The National Immigration Institute (INM) has introduced differentiated fees of 100% and 50% for various immigration procedures in 2026. Only those who can demonstrate family unity, a job offer or an invitation to participate in non-profit activities will be eligible for the reduced fee. This measure requires companies and applicants to review each case more carefully.**





In January of this year, as is customary, the (INM), announced the government[ fees that applicants must pay for immigration procedures](https://www.gob.mx/inm/articulos/tarifas-de-derechos-migratorios-2026?idiom=es) at its offices throughout the Mexican Republic.

A key change introduced in 2026 is the distinction between full fees (100%) and reduced fees (50%), applicable to the following procedures:

- Issuance of an immigration document by exchange.
- Issuance of a document by renewal.
- Issuance of a resident card by agreement.
- Temporary residence permits for one, two, three, or up to four years.
- Change of immigration status.

This measure is based on the [decree published on November 7, 2025, in the Official Gazette](https://www.dof.gob.mx/nota_detalle.php?codigo=5772360&fecha=07/11/2025#gsc.tab=0), which amended certain provisions of the Federal Government Fees Law, specifically Article 8. The article states that “50% of the fees shall be paid” provided that individuals prove to the INM that their stay in Mexico is due to one of the following:

- Preservation of family unity with temporary or permanent residents and/or a Mexican family member.
- A job offer made by individuals or legal entities with a valid employer registration.
- An invitation from an organization and/or public or private institution to participate in non-profit activities.

Currently, INM officials are applying the decree strictly, requiring applicants to pay 100% of the fees if they cannot prove the circumstances described above.
