Garrigues won the Best European Independent Law Firm of the Year at the TopLegal Awards held in Milan last night. The Spanish firm beat a host of Continental rivals for its ability to anticipate trends and create new markets thanks to a unique and innovative global strategy across three continents.

The Spanish firm beat a host of Continental rivals for its ability to anticipate trends and create new markets thanks to a unique and innovative global strategy across three continents.
A host of Europe’s premier practices vied over the past two months for the top accolades, which are the highlight of the Italian legal calendar, attracting senior lawyers from across Italy and Europe.
The event celebrates the achievements of law firms and lawyers across a number of different categories. These include practice areas such as corporate/M&A, banking, IP and capital markets, as well as categories such as law firm of the year, lawyer of the year, best European independent and best international firm.
Garrigues competed in the category of Best European Independent Law Firm against a great variety of firms.
Along with Garrigues, the other five most voted were: Chiomenti (Italy), Uría Menéndez (Spain), Schönerr (Austria), Bonelli Erede Pappalardo (Italy) and Loyens & Loeff (Netherlands).
TopLegal, the Italian publication organizes the awards in three phases. Initially a shortlist of candidates is drawn up for each award, for which peers can vote for their chosen winner through the TopLegal website. Finally, a panel of industry experts selects the final winners from the list of the most polled candidates.
Managing Partner [Miguel Gordillo](/eng/equipo_03.aspx?id=39&l=G&noPagina=3) and Partner [Claudio Doria](/eng/equipo_03.aspx?id=155&l=D&noPagina=2) attended the event at the East End Studios in Milan, where over 600 people, including business lawyers, entrepreneurs and executives from the world of industry and finance gathered.
