These awards recognize both outstanding institutions and transactions in the capital markets of Latin America and the Caribbean over the last twelve months. The awards were presented last night in New York at an event which brought together the main financial operators and international law firms, as well as the large corporations and institutions tasked with launching major investment initiatives in Latin America. Oscar Arrús, a partner at Garrigues’ Lima office, and Pedro García Morales, a partner at the firm’s Santiago de Chile office, collected the award. As part of an extensive consultation process with a range of industry experts, Latin Finance looked at the progress and innovations that have taken place, identifying the landmark transactions and the borrowers, banks and law firms that made them happen. In evaluating Garrigues’ work, consideration was given to its strategy in a competitive environment, the breadth of transactions that the firm worked on and the innovation and foresight demonstrated by the deals. The firm advised on several notable transactions last year, including the financing of the Line 2 Lima Metro project, the Covipacífico operation (one of the concession-holders for Colombia’s fourth generation highways project) and the Peru’s $3 billion local currency bond issue. This last transaction won LatinFinance’s awards for “Local Currency Deal of the Year” and “Sovereign Liability Management of the Year”. This is not the first time that this publication has recognized the firm’s work in the region. Garrigues was named “Best Infrastructure Law Firm: Andes” at the last two editions of LatinFinance’s Project & Infrastructure Finance Awards. These accolades help boost the firm’s strategy in Latin America, based on the opening of own offices, staffed by local and international professionals specializing in the different areas of business law. The Latin American practice has been bolstered these last months with the addition of several experts in areas of strategic importance to the firm’s clients.
