The event marked the second time that this publishing group (held in high esteem by the international legal community) has organized exclusively European awards to highlight the work performed each year by the continent’s law firms. The event marked the second time that this publishing group (held in high esteem by the international legal community) has organized exclusively European awards to highlight the work performed each year by the continent’s law firms. This accolade comes on top of the Firm’s success at last year’s ceremony, at which Firm Chairman Antonio Garrigues was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to the world of business law. Chambers & Partners highly rated the Firm’s position of strength in the domestic market, with 26 offices spanning the entire country and billings in 2008 that fell just short of the €300 million-mark. The Firm’s candidature was also bolstered by its broad international expansion, with new offices being added to the network year after year. 2008 saw Garrigues strengthen its foothold in Eastern Europe and North Africa with the Bucharest and Tangiers offices opening for business. The Firm’s international network can currently boast ten offices in Belgium, China, the US, Morocco, Portugal, the UK, Romania and Poland. The Garrigues Managing Partners, José María Alonso and Miguel Gordillo, present at the awards ceremony, expressed their satisfaction on obtaining this honor. José María Alonso wished to highlight the great prestige enjoyed by this award: "Two years ago, we picked up the award for Iberian Firm of the Year in the global awards category. Being here again is proof that we continue to do a good job. We are particularly pleased and grateful to receive this award from a publication that is a point of reference in the international legal community.” Miguel Gordillo described the award as “a significant vote of confidence in Garrigues’ core values, such as quality, excellence in client services, professional ethics and a sound business approach. It also represents recognition for the exceptional work performed by all the Firm’s personnel.” The specialization of the Garrigues team was another of the key factors that swayed the decision to make the award.
