Previous Next
Lawyers from the Garrigues Restructuring & Insolvency department have taken an active part in the main events in this field, both in Spain and internationally. In recent weeks, the firm has participated in various events alongside major experts, and this month has important events coming up in various countries.
Universidad Loyola Andalucía (in Seville) held between April 4 and April 6 an event to commemorate [60 years of the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards.](http://eventos.uloyola.es/16904/detail/60-anos-de-la-convencion-de-nueva-york-de-1958-sobre-reconocimiento-y-ejecucion-de-sentencias-arbit.html) Our senior associate **Iván Heredia** gave a talk on recognition of foreign awards and insolvency (*Reconocimiento de laudos extranjeros y concurso*) at this conference organized by CNUDMI/UNCITRAL and Club Español de Arbitraje. Heredia gave another talk on April 24, this time on the subject of arbitration and insolvency proceedings (*Arbitraje y procedimientos de insolvencia)*, at an event on current mediation and arbitration strategies ([*Estrategias actuales en materia de mediación y arbitraje*),](http://www3.uah.es/dipr/index.php/2018/02/12/congreso-internacional-estrategias-actuales-en-materia-de-mediacion-y-arbitraje-comercial/) at Universidad de Alcalá de Henares.
In Madrid, Garrigues partner [Adrián Thery](http://www.garrigues.com/es_ES/equipo/adrian-thery-marti) took part in a roundtable on relocating the registered office and pre-insolvency and insolvency procedures (*Traslado de domicilio y procedimientos preconcursales y concursales*), as part of a conference on this subject organized by Universidad Complutense and held on April 26 and April 27.
**International events**
Throughout May our experts on restructuring and insolvencies also have a number of international events coming up.
Our partner [Borja García-Alamán](http://www.garrigues.com/es_ES/equipo/borja-garcia-alaman-de-la-calle) will speak on a panel entitled *Insolvency Round-Up*, at the Annual International Lending Conference, organized by the United Kingdom Commerce Finance Association to take place on May 15 through May 17, in London. They will address *key aspects on directors´ liability at insolvency proceedings in Spain*.
On May 18, under the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU, an event in Varna (Bulgaria) has been arranged on the *Main challenges* *and trends in insolvency proceedings restructuring and second chance***.** Garrigues will be represented at this event by partner **Adrián Thery**, on Panel 1, *Preventive restructuring procedures – A balancing act*, with a talk on *Improving the chances of a plan being adopted while protecting creditors in cross-class cram-down plans*.
Thery will also participate as speaker in a panel on the current progress of NPLs in the European Union at the Insol Europe 2018 Annual Congress, on the theme of [*Breaking the Chains*](https://www.insol-europe.org/events/event-details/188), held on October 4 through October 7 2018 in Athens (Greece).
And in Latin America, on June 7 **Adrián Thery** will participate as speaker in a panel on pre-insolvency restructuring of companies in crisis (*La reestructuración pre-concursal de empresas en crisis*) and **Iván Heredia** will participate in a panel on insolvency restructuring of multinational groups of companies in Europe and Latin America (*Reestructuración concursal transfronteriza de grupos de empresas multinacionales en Europa y Latinoamérica*), at an event organized by the Cámara de Sociedades in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
