The event brought together the leading firms from 12 North, South and Central American countries, including the United States and Canada.** International Tax Review, one of the most prestigious tax law publications, awarded the distinction to Garrigues, citing the firm’s advisory services to both Colombian and international institutions in strategic matters for the country. This includes the firm’s work concerning the incentives policies for regions heavily affected by the Colombian conflict, as part of the economic development framework following signature of the peace agreement. Garrigues was a finalist in several different categories, along with other firms from the Americas. In particular, Garrigues made the short list for Tax Firm of the Year in Chile, Colombia, Peru and Mexico and for Americas Indirect Tax Firm of the Year, while César Cermeño was a finalist in the Americas Tax Litigation & Disputes Practice Leader category and Camilo Zarama was up for the Americas Tax Leader of the Year award. Camilo Zarama, the partner in charge of the tax practice in Colombia, called the award and the other nominations a “clear recognition of the work carried out by the entire Tax Law Department and of the experience gained through the firm’s many offices. It is a privilege to have access to this vast pool of knowledge.” The tax area comprises 485 professionals worldwide and accounts for one-third of the firm’s invoicing.
