# Garrigues Colombia named Americas Best Newcomer by International Tax Review

The publication valued the strength and expertise of the Bogotá tax practice, and the firm’s capacity to deliver innovative solutions to its clients
**New York, September 16, 2016.**- The prestigious international publication International Tax Review (ITR) has named Garrigues Colombia Best Newcomer of the Year in the Americas. The specialist tax panel valued the strength and expertise of the Bogotá team, its ability to coordinate with rest of the Garrigues network in the Americas and to deliver innovative and comprehensive solutions to its clients.
Each year, International Tax Review analyzes the most innovative tax deals in the 16 principal markets of the Americas, encompassing Latin America as well as the US and Canada. In addition to the Bogotá office taking Americas Best Newcomer, Garrigues was also shortlisted in a further eight categories of the 2016 awards.
The 40-strong Garrigues Bogotá team is made up of professionals who, in addition to their proven experience in the Colombian market, have worked for law firms in highly competitive markets such as New York, London and Madrid. This international grounding within an integrated law firm that is present in thirteen countries enables them to advise on the most complex business law transactions that may arise.
For Garrigues, this award bolsters the firm’s ambitious expansion plans in Latin America, with offices already opened in five countries—Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Chile—and a team of more than one hundred lawyers. The coordination of legal practice in each of these markets notably broadens the options that the firm is able to offer its clients in the region.
In the words of Javier Ybáñez, the partner in charge of Garrigues’ Latin American practice, “we highly value this type of recognition that endorses the reality of our presence in Latin America, and the value that it can have for our clients”.
For Camilo Zarama, head of the Colombian tax practice, who collected the award, “it recognizes the work of the entire team, and the way of doing things at Garrigues, which is the hallmark of all of our offices. It is a testament to how the importance and weighting of the tax practice at Garrigues extends to Latin America”.
