Fernando Vives has spent more than 30 years at Garrigues, making partner in 1998 and heading the corporate/commercial practice from 2001 to 2009. Throughout his career he has participated in some of the largest business transactions performed in Spain. Even as chairman, he continues to address the day-to-day matters of his main clients, an advisory role he has never given up. Fernando Vives holds a Doctor of Laws and lectures in Commercial law at Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE). He was a member of the Corporate Governance Committee of Experts created to advise the Spanish government and, among other offices, he has formed part of the Advisory Committee of the Spanish National Securities Market Commission, chosen by its Board as a renowned professional, since 2012. Ricardo Gómez-Barreda will continue to be the senior partner of the firm. **Internationalization and technology** As part of the challenges faced by the firm in this new term, Fernando Vives will be tasked with consolidating and extending the firm’s expansion into Latin America, embarked upon two years ago and aimed at making Garrigues the Iberian law firm of choice in the region in the medium term. The firm already has a network of own offices in five countries (Colombia, Chile, Peru, Mexico and Brazil) and boasts a team of more than 130 professionals, of whom 29 are partners. The firm’s commitment to technological innovation as applied to the provision of quality legal services is another major factor that will shape Garrigues’ strategy over the next few years.
