# The American Lawyer names Garrigues European Law Firm of the Year: Spain

Garrigues has been named European Law Firm of the Year: Spain at the Transatlantic Legal Awards hosted by international publication The American Lawyer in recognition of the firm’s work and its participation in crossborder transactions between the Americas and Europe. Garrigues, the only Spanish law firm to be recognized, picked up the award at the ceremony held last night in London at which other European firms operating on both sides of the Atlantic were also honored.
“Our clients are international players operating in the global market. Accolades like these are particularly special because they recognize the firm’s strategic efforts to stay close to our clients in order to understand their needs and offer them the best possible service,” explained Fernando Vives, executive chairman of Garrigues.
This is the second edition of the Transatlantic Legal Awards organized annually by media group ALM, publisher of The American Lawyer and other specialist publications such as Legal Week. The awards aim to recognize the work of international firms in deals and transactions between the Americas and Europe in areas such as commercial law, finance and dispute resolution. ALM’s editorial team, based in the US and the UK, also looked at other aspects, such as the firm’s international strategy, innovation and commitment to corporate social responsibility and pro bono work. The final decision also took into account feedback from clients, who valued the work of international firms on both sides of the Atlantic.
One of the key aspects was Garrigues’ international network, which operates in thirteen countries and has a particular presence in Latin America. Following the opening of the Santiago de Chile office, the firm now boasts a professional team of more than 120 people at its five bases in the region: Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Chile and Brazil. The judges also took into account Garrigues’ presence in Asia, with offices in Shanghai and Beijing, both of which are strategic cities for the coordination of transactions between Asia, Latin America and Europe.
