The Global Compact’s Ten Principles are based on Universal Declarations and Conventions. When it was launched, the initiative had nine principles: two in the area of human rights, based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; four in the area of labor, inspired by the International Labor Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work; and three in the environmental area, based on the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development.
Midway through 2004, it became clear that there was a need to reinforce the nine existing principles with a tenth anti-corruption principle, based on the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
Garrigues has been part of the Global Compact since 2002.
