Santiago Chacón



Santiago has over 17 years of experience in international tax, working mainly out of Mexico City, as well as in Sao Paulo, Brazil (2003-2004) and London, United Kingdom (2008-2009).

Santiago specializes in advising multinational as well as Mexican entities, especially in tax planning for foreign investments into Mexico, as well as tax treatment in general for non-residents.

During his professional experience he has worked in multi-jurisdictional projects, which has given him an overall global vision, and particularly over international transactions, advising numerous multinational groups as well as Mexican groups investing abroad in mergers & acquisitions in Mexico, doing sell & buy side due diligence and structuring for diverse deals. During his professional career, Santiago has advised companies about compliance, and tax planning in Mexico.  His professional expertise encompasses structuring for infrastructure projects, with particular experience in energy generation deals, financial structuring, as well as corporate reorganizations.  Likewise, he has broad experience in prevention, defense and resolution of tax controversies with the Mexican tax authorities.

As an attorney, Santiago has advised companies of the most diverse fields including energy, oil & gas, consumer products, retail, transportation, mining, among others. 

Before joining Garrigues, Santiago served as an International Tax partner with EY Mexico City, and previously worked at PwC/Coopers & Lybrand.

Santiago is a member of the Mexican Bar (Barra Mexicana de Abogados).
