Pablo García Castro has been a principal associate in the Restructuring and Insolvency Department of Garrigues since 2022. He specializes in insolvency and restructuring proceedings and the homologation of restructuring plans. He has been involved in some of the most important insolvency proceedings in Spain, with notable participation in the defense of clawback actions and in processes for the sale of business units. He also has deep experience in enforcement and foreclosure proceedings. He holds a law degree from the University of Santiago de Compostela, and studied his last year of his degree at the Robert Schuman University of Strasbourg, France (currently the University of Strasbourg).
Experience
He has been a principal associate in the Restructuring and Insolvency Department of Garrigues since 2022, a firm he joined in 2011.
He has participated in some of the most important insolvency proceedings in Spain. He has extensive experience in assisting debtors and creditors (mainly national and international financial institutions) in insolvency and pre-insolvency proceedings. In particular, his participation in the defense of clawback actions, in processes of sale of business units, as well as in ordinary and foreclosure proceedings is noteworthy.
He provides advice in corporate financial restructuring transactions and in proceedings for the homologation of restructuring plans. Likewise, since joining the firm, he has regularly participated in transactions for the acquisition and appraisal of mortgage and consumer loan portfolios (non-performing loans).
His native languages are Spanish and Galician and he is also fluent in English, French and Portuguese.
Academic background
- Degree in Law, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. He spent the last year of his degree course at Université Robert Schuman in Strasbourg, France (now the University of Strasbourg).
- Candidate in the entrance exams to become an officially approved registrar (2009-2011).
- Executive Master’s Degree in Business Law, Centro de Estudios Garrigues.
- Executive Master’s Degree in Corporate Finance, Centro de Estudios Garrigues.
- International Legal English Certificate, Cambridge University.
Teaching activity
He has taught the module "Insolvency proceedings of sport entities" and "Sport Clubs' insolvency proceedings" in the MBA in Sports, Business & Law at Centro de Estudios Garrigues in the 2019-2020 and 2023-2024 editions, respectively.
He has participated as a lecturer in the VIII Foro Aranzadi Concursal Madrid in the 2019-2020 and 2022-2023 editions.
He has taught the subject "International law, insolvency and restructuring" in the Master of Laws (LLM) in International Transactions 2023/2024 at Centro de Estudios Garrigues.
He has been invited to give lectures on Insolvency Law to students of the Law Degree at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
